INTRODUCING DYLAN HOWE

The Story So Far

"As a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer, 27 year old Dylan Howe has established himself in the world of music from an early age. With his performing career starting on Mandolin and Clarinet from the age of 8, he has gone on to play tours around Canada, New York, UK, Germany and all around Ireland. From his early teachings in Irish Traditional music, he has gone on to study jazz and classical music and share the stage with artists such as Badly Drawn Boy, The Frank & Walters, Ariel Posen, Adam Neely, and many more. He has studied Piano, Clarinet, and Saxophone, but is self taught in Mandolin, Trumpet, Cello, Guitar, Theremin, and Kalimba.

As the frontman of Rowan, he has received songwriting awards from Gael-Linn’s Scléip, Bank of Ireland and is now after receiving the Colin Vearncombe songwriting award in 2018. His multi-instrumental abilities have been hired by artists such as Toucan, The Stunning, Dan Elliott, Jack O’Rourke, Clare Sands, Tiz McNamara, and many more. As a session musician, songwriter, musical director, recording artist, there are few roles Dylan hasn’t played in the world of music.

As a composer arranger, he has been commissioned a number of times to write scores for various productions. At the age of 18, he was commissioned to write the music for UCC’s 2015 production of Hedda Gabler. In 2018, Jessica Leen also commissioned him to write the music for her play ‘Two Of Clubs’. In 2019 he was commissioned to arrange a Sharon Shannon & Justin Adams tune called ‘Sacred Earth’ for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, which was performed during their shows in Ireland and is still performed by the orchestra today in Milwaukee. He has also written the string and brass arrangements for the 2018 Rowan EP Asleep In The Rain, 2019 Milky Teeth album ‘Holy Shindig’, and Dark Tropics 2020 ‘Ink’ album. He also performed the brass and keys parts on these albums. His own style lies primarily in Folk, Indie and Jazz music, while occasionally skimming the surface of Irish Traditional music, creating a fusion with Clare Sands, who has been collaborating with Dylan for a number of years now.

Dylan is also the frontman of Irish Indie band Rowan, who have gained international success in recent years after signing a record deal with LA label Beverly Martel. Their debut album reached #3 in the Irish indie charts, behind Fontaines D.C and ahead of the Arctic Monkeys in 2022, with singles entering the top 10 alternative charts in the US. They have gained critical acclaim from the likes of Steve Lemacq on BBC, John Kennedy on Radio X, Ed Smith on Today FM and many others. The band are currently working on new material and gearing towards a busy 2023.

After being awarded a first-class honours Bachelors degree from the C.I.T. Cork School of Music, Dylan has been and is still collaborating with artists locally and internationally.
